This article explains how to order S/MIME certificates and PGP keys for email encryption through Hornetsecurity.
Depending on the encryption method, either S/MIME certificates or PGP keys are required for using email encryption.
Requirements
Make sure the following requirements are met:
- The Email Encryption module is activated for the customer.
- The desired encryption method, S/MIME or PGP, is activated.
Ordering S/MIME Certificates
S/MIME certificates can be ordered directly through Hornetsecurity.
Creating an S/MIME user triggers the order. Processing the order can take up to 3 days. Instructions can be found here: S/MIME Users
Importing Your Own Certificates
! If you already have your own S/MIME certificates, these can also be used. Importing private certificates is subject to a fee. Please contact Hornetsecurity Support for this.

Storing and managing public S/MIME certificates is free of charge.
PGP Keys
PGP key pairs can be generated by Hornetsecurity and stored in our systems.
A PGP key pair consists of a public and a private key.
To generate and store a PGP key pair, please contact Hornetsecurity Support.
If you already have your own PGP key pairs, these can also be used and imported by Support.
Importing delivered private PGP keys is subject to a fee. For detailed information about the costs, please contact our Sales team.
Storing and managing public PGP keys is free of charge.
