Once you've signed up and have access to the Office 365 Backup Control Panel, you're ready to start adding your Office 365 Organizations and take backups.
- Go to [Microsoft 365 Organizations] from the left pane
- Next, click on [Add a Microsoft 365 Organization]

[End Users] Enter a Microsoft 365 Organization Company Name (a friendly name) and then the actual Microsoft 365 Organization domain. Then click [Next]
[MSP's] The first step is to 'Select a Customer' from the list. Enter a Microsoft 365 Organization Company Name (a friendly name) and then the actual Microsoft 365 Organization domain. Once done, click [Next]. If the customer you're adding the Microsoft 365 Organization for is not added, go to the [Customers] tab from the menu and add the customer there.
At this stage, you also have the option to set up a retention/purge policy. More on this here.
- To proceed, follow the on-screen instructions to grant permission. This will allow the Hornetsecurity applications to be able to backup your Mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint Sites, Teams Chats, and Entra ID items.
Select [Grant Access]
- You will then be taken to Microsoft's website to log in using your Microsoft 365 Administrator account in order to grant access for 365 Total Backup to the account.
- After signing in, click on [Accept]. Then click [Close] to proceed with the onboarding process.
- Now it's time to choose which users you'd like to backup and whether you would prefer to automatically backup newly created users in the future. Once you're happy with the selection, click [Next]
Then, configure your Groups and SharePoint Files settings and click [Next]
- Finally, click [Finish] to complete the onboarding process.
