What is an MSG-ID?
The MSG-ID is the unique identifier of an email for both incoming and outgoing messages.
Hornetsecurity assigns this identifier so that a message can be uniquely identified.
Provide the MSG-ID to support if you want a specific email to be checked. It facilitates the analysis and assignment of the message.
Note: The Hornetsecurity MSG-ID should not be confused with the email header Message-ID. A Hornetsecurity MSG-ID is always assigned to exactly one single email. In contrast, a Message-ID can be assigned to multiple emails.
Where can I find the MSG-ID?
You can find the MSG-ID in two ways:
1. In the email headers
For incoming emails, the MSG-ID is inserted into the email header.
Look for the line:
x-antispameurope-MSGID
The value in this line is the MSG-ID of the email.
2. In Email Live Tracking
In Email Live Tracking, you can display the MSG-ID as an additional column. This is also possible for outgoing emails.
-
Open the Email Live Tracking and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the table header
-
Check the box for MSG-ID.
- The MSG-ID will now be shown as an additional column in the table.
More options for customizing the display in Email Live Tracking can be found here.
Tip: By double-clicking the MSG-ID in the Email Live Tracking table, it is inserted directly into the search field. There you can highlight and copy the MSG-ID to, for example, forward it to support.
