What is the Message ID?
The Message ID is the identifier of an email assigned by the sender's originating server.
It can be displayed in the Control Panel under Email Security > Email Live Tracking by showing the corresponding column or opening the email details.
Note: The Message ID must not be confused with the Hornetsecurity Message ID. The Message ID is assigned by Hornetsecurity, whereas the Message ID originates from the sender's originating server.
Where can I find the Message ID?
You can find the Message ID in two ways:
1. In the Email Headers
For emails, the Message ID is included in the email headers.
Look for the line:
Message-ID
The value in this line is the Message ID of the email.
2. In Email Live Tracking
In Email Live Tracking, you can display the Message ID as an additional column. This is also possible for outgoing emails.
-
Open Email Live Tracking and click the gear icon
at the top right of the table header.
-
Check the box for Message ID.
-
The Message ID will now be displayed as an additional column in the table.
Additional options for customizing the display in Email Live Tracking can be found here.
Tip: By double-clicking the Message ID in the Email Live Tracking table, it will be directly inserted into the search field. There you can highlight and copy the Message ID, for example, to forward it to support.
