PROBLEM

An unsupported file type vmgs was detected in the virtual machine for replication (Error Code 'VMREPLICATIONSOURCEMANAGER_005)

Please remove the file from the virtual machine configuration so replication can be performed

CAUSE

A VMGS / VFD file attached to a VM is currently unsupported for replication purposes.

SOLUTION

If you have a VFD (virtual floppy drive) attached to your virtual machine, kindly remove this from its configuration in Hyper-V Manager. Then attempt replication once again.

At the moment, VMGS (stores the virtual machine guest state, with VM version 8.2) are not supported for replication purposes as it stands, but they will be supported within the coming weeks.
