From build 9.6 onwards, VM Backup introduced the ability to enable automatic protection for newly discovered VMs without requiring manual configuration. This feature allows new VMs to be automatically assigned to predefined settings, such as Backup Locations, Schedule Settings, Retention Policy and more. Additionally, you will also be able to define exclusions for VMs containing specific names or VMs created through sandbox restores. This feature will be available with the Unlimited Plus and Subscription licenses.
To set up Auto Configuration, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to [Backup Settings] > [Auto Configuration] or by clicking the 'Auto Config' button on the top bar next to the CP button
- Toggle [Enable Auto Configuration]
- Upon initial setup of the Auto Config, you will be able to assign the settings for "Only newly discovered VMs" or "Currently unconfigured VMs and newly discovered VMs". Additionally, you can also set up exclusions for VMs created through sandbox restores or VMs containing specific names. In this example, the settings have been selected to be automatically assigned to newly discovered VMs, to also exclude VMs created through restore jobs and exclude any VMs containing the name "testrestore"
Note: Instant Boot VM's for Verification or Recovery are automatically excluded for auto configuration. The restored VM as part of the Recovery process will be picked up and configured automatically. - You can then select which Backup Locations will be used in this configuration
- When you're happy with your selections, click [Save Changes] and enter your credentials to authenticate the changes
