Notes
This change affects the VM Backup Management Console (User Interface) only. Any existing backup schedules and services will continue to run.
These operating systems have also reached their end of support by Microsoft. More information here.
VM Backup 9.20.0.0 includes an Electron upgrade required to address a security vulnerability. These Electron components rely on Chromium based technologies, which have discontinued support for older Windows operating systems.
As a result, from build 9.20 onwards, the VM Backup Management Console will no longer be compatible on the following operating systems:
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
- Windows Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SP1 (core installation)
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 (core installation)
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (core installation)
Attempting to launch the VM Backup Management Console on one of these operating systems, the following Windows error will be displayed: "This app can't run on your PC".
If you do not have access to another machine running a supported operating system, you may remain on build 9.19.5.0. Alternatively, you can install the VM Backup Management Tools on a different machine and use [Connection Manager] to connect to your VM Backup installation.
We recommend migrating your VM Backup configuration to a supported operating system to make use of our latest builds. For more info on how to migrate the VM Backup configuration, refer to this article.
For additional information regarding Chromium support, refer to the relevant Chromium documentation.
